Question
I have an 8 year old female cocker who has always been in good health.  About 2 weeks ago she started favoring her right front paw.  We thought it might be due to her attempt to dig in  rick garden.  But since then she has lost her ability to jump up on the bed (double height), furniture and even shows problems with the single step into the house (does it one leg at a time).  She still likes to walk and did our normal 3 mile route yesterday.  She continues to eat and go outside but she does not seem to be that happy little kid she was just a few weeks ago

Answer
Hi David, your girl needs a vet visit and probably an x-ray.

There's a new "herbal" pain killer called DogGone Pain and I'd certainly give that a try (PetSmart carries it) before using any NSAID the vet might give (like Metacam).  Start with 1/2 the recommended dose...sometimes anything can give them an upset tummy.

You may think it's her paw but actually the pain could be in her shoulder or upper back..so get her checked out.
