Cocker Spaniel and Diabetes

Question
What is the life expectancy once an American Cocker is diagnosed with diabetes? Our baby is 10 years old and we just found out he is diabetic. How much longer do we typically have with him?

Answer
As with people, diabetics can live a normal life span especially if diagnosed late in life.

If you're willing to learn to give injections and test his blood sugar, there's no reason to think he can't be around for years.  I'd certainly get a referral to a specialist since there are many stages of diabetes and mild cases can be quite controllable with diet changes.

Best of luck with your boy !
