Question
we tried what you said about nylon balls and other toys! but she just still doesn't want to play! we want my kids to be able to play with her but she just is too calm! do you know how to train a dog to play with toys! besides what you said earlier about sand paper and stuff?
Please help!
Also we got her from a mean breeder and she was abused! does that heve anything to do with it?

Answer
OK, it is time to get serious here.  Is it warm enough to go outside?  Send her and the kids outside with a tennis ball and a Frisbee.  Let them run around and play catch.  Surely if they drop it now and then, she will join in.

And yes, mistreatment by the breeder can cause problems.  Part of the problem could be removing her from her mother and litter before 6 weeks, and a general lack of attention.  the dog guide school I volunteer for actually has a quota for the time each puppy must be held each day, starting the day it is born.  the mother and litter stay together until 6 weeks old.  The litter then goes to the school kennel and clinic, and the puppies are in their home by the next weekend.
