Question
how do i stop my6 month old cocker spaniel from jumping up and all over my grandchildren when they come to visit .will she calm down as she gets older.people have been telling me they never calm down is this true?at what age will she reach her full size she is big just now so was wondering if she would be fully grown

Answer
Hi Hilda, No thats not true all dogs calm down eventually, Cockers are yes very happy lively little dogs, the way to deal with her jumping is repetition in her training, When people come in Make her sit and wait, reward her when she does this, let them in and tell people to ignore her when they come in, its hard I know, if she just jumps at them tell them to turn away from her and ignore her the minute she stops jumping reward her again, if she jumps again turn away from her and put your back to her, she will soon get the message use the word you want to stop her from jumping DOWN is probably not the best as you use this when you want them to get off the furniture however OFF Down Calm Floor anything can be used as long as you all stick to the same word, and the rewards are a must.
As for her size she should stop growing by about 11 months to a year however she may still fill out after this but her height should be steady by then, some cockers are big from the beginning dont worry she will stop.
Also what food are you giving her, it can play a big part in how hyper they are, I recommend James wellbeloved or similiar something with no additives flavourings or colourings in, something natural, give it a go I changed My Cocker and could see the difference within a month, I now have a very calm happy still lively 3 year old little girl.
Good luck with your baby but dont forget she is still very much a puppy and you will need to keep this training going it may seem sometimes you are getting nowhere but it will all click you will see.
Best Wishes
Kathy
