Question
Hi, i have a two month old Cocker Spaniel.
She can't control her need to go to the bathroom.
When she goes outside, she occasionally pees, but other
than that, not really. how do i get her to go outside?

Answer
Puppies at this age have no bladder control just like human infants.

So what you do for now is take her outside every 2 hours and "wait" :)
Once she does piddle, you know you're fairly safe for about an hour.

In the house, if you can't keep an eye on her, then confine her to the kitchen (don't isolate her) and put some papers down.  Most pet stores have training pads that attract them to go.

But basically she needs to be in a papered area where she can't make a mistake on your carpet.

When she does go outside or on the papers...lots of praise and a treat.  Dogs don't just "know" - they have to be taught.  Always take her out after a nap and after meals.

At 8 weeks there's absolutely no point in correcting her - all you can do is help her be where she should be.  At night, paper the area she sleeps in (layers of newspapers).

At this age she needs feeding 4 to 5 times a day because she's in an enormous growth spurt.  Mostly they nap - eat - play a little and then repeat the cycle.

So after her nap - get her outside - watch for the signal she's looking for a spot (anticipate) and give your command "go potty" and when she does - praise & treat.  Bring her in - feed her - outside again for a playtime.

Housebreaking is a lot of work but if you get on it and are consistent and patient she'll learn where you want her to go.
In another month she should be pretty good..but be prepared..just when you think it's done, there'll be an accident.  Unless you catch her in the act, don't bother to fuss about it.  She won't know why.
If you do catch her - a firm NO and take her outside.

If you don't catch her in the act, just clean it up and vow to be more vigilant :)
Best of luck and write anytime.
