Question
QUESTION: His daily walks are about 30 minutes, mostly in the
evening as we are at work in the morning.
But we live in a house with a big yard and
he has plenty of room to run when we are away.
He is not in the apartment when we are away,
he comes in the apartment when we arrive home.

ANSWER: This is not ideal and leaving him outside all day no matter what the weather is unsafe.  And I hope your gate is locked.
Half an hour isn't enough exercise.

QUESTION: Hm let me explain better. We leave him outside of
the house for 8-9 hours while we are away. Our
house has piloti and first floor and so the courtyard is
carpeted. He also has a doghouse there to keep him warm
and of course not only we lock the door, but we also have an iron fence
so that he does not have access to the door at all.
As for the weather here in Greece the winters are calm
and not very cold, so I do not think he has a problem
with that.
I know his exercise in not much for him. Unfortunatelly
we do not have enough free time.
Do you think that his behavior has something to
do with the less exercise he is taking???

Answer
For dogs, exercise is one of their top requirements.  A bored, isolated dog WILL have behavioural problems - I can guarantee that.  So yes, this is a problem.  Someone has to step up and take him out for at least 1/2 an hour in the morning before he's left alone for 9 hours...and again when you get home.

Dogs are social creatures - he needs to walk, sniff, meet other dogs or he's going to go crazy.
Love is not enough, Maria.  There's a responsibility to meet his needs.
