Crate Urination

Question
Hey Jannie, We have a male boxer named Tyson that is almost one year old on June 15th. He is crate trained, and he doesnt soil thae house or crate at all. Today we bought him a new crate because the old one was to small and too cramped for Tyson. We bought a slighly bigger crate with a bed cushion so he doesnt have to sleep on that hard plastic. Long story short. We left the house after we put the crate together and put the slim bed in it. We were gone for about a hour. Well when we come back he urintated all over his crate. Why did he do this? He never has urinated in his old crate since he has been potty trained. Could this be because its a new crate with a new bed cushion liner? And that he is just marking his territory? I desperatly need your assistance. Thanks in advance

Answer
Yes, Tyson was marking his territory making the new crate his own.

All dogs; male and female, will "mark" their belongings and territories.

I doubt he'll continue doing it, but if he does continue, reprimand him by holding the wet bed-pad up to his nose and tell him bad or whatever you tell him, and take him outside as to pee.

But don't make an issue of it if it is occasionally, as you'll cause him to not want to go into the crate.
