Question
Jannie,

Our two year old boxer, Murphy, has developed a hard protrusion on the last rib on his right side.  It is definitely solid and feels like part of his rib.  It does not move, feels smooth and somewhat pointed (sort of dome shaped), and is smaller than the size of a dime.  When he turns his body to the left, the protrusion really sticks out.  Due to recent financial circumstances, we have not yet been able to see a vet.  What are your thoughts on Murphy's condition; and do you have any resource info on healthcare for pets that allow you to pay on a sliding scale?  We live in San Diego, CA.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
I am so sorry, but this is life threatening and does require a vet ASAP.

Call your vet, and if you don't have one, ask friends, family, neighbors about their vets, and get them to take him in with you and talk on your behalf about payment arrangements. Once a vet sees him, he is apt to accept arrangements to treat him and get him well.

Let me know.
