Is my boxer just bored?

Question
I have a 2 1/2 year old boxer male. When I got him, I lived in a house and was able to take him to daycare 2 times per week wehre he had a blast and was able to release his energy. I have since moved due to work to a Townhouse and with the state of the economy I am no longer able to take him to daycare more than occassionally. My finace's and I both work and he has become destructive by chewing on DVD's, Books, even ruining a couch. We tried confining him to a smaller space and that did not work. We are considering giving him to my parents who live nearby as my father is retired and would like the company and has a house w/ a yard until we can save money to enroll him in daycare again. Before we give him up for a few months do you have any suggestions? I feel it is not fair to him to be locked away during the week since the breed is high energy. The daily long walks and ball playing are just not working.

Answer
Hi Bill. He's still pretty young, puppy like. There's not a lot that I can suggest. Crating him for hours on end isn't a good idea. Can you find someone that can come in and let her out, or take him for a walk while you're at work? If you can, you may want to think about using the crate. That's just about the only thing I can offer, as you said you you tried to confine him and it didn't work. Letting your dad keep him for a little while may just be the best solution right now, just until things work out better for you. I know this isn't much help, but that's all that I can suggest.
