pacing boxer

Hi, I have a boxer who constantly paces. I have taken him from a family member who can't care for him anymore. He is 2 years old and has spent most of his time in a crate and has had to obedience training. Could this be a condition he has or something else? Could this be treated with medication or training or both?

Hi Charlotte. You said he spent most of his time in a crate....this may be your boy's problem. I honestly feel that if you find a good trainer for this boy, it will help. I'd first get him to the vet for a check up to rule out any physical problem, which I don't think is what's going on, be do it please just to be safe. After that, find a good trainer, and give your boy plenty of time. Learned behaviors can take a while to change. I honestly feel that with love, patience, and training, your boy will be just fine.
