Same sex homing

Question
I currently have two male boxers (a 3 yr old & a 1 1/2 yr old).  Both males get along great with one another, and there has been no aggression show by either one of them.  We want to add one more boxer to our home, but I am not sure which sex I should consider.  I was told that dogs of the same sex should not be in the same home together because of the "alpha male" thing, and the possibility that they might show aggression towards one another, but again I have had no problem with the two males I currently have (we got them a couple months apart).

We had a 3 year old female boxer who was very inactive, in fact she wanted to lay around the house all day after eating, and did not want to frolic at all so I returned her to the breeder.  This is where my concern falls.  It seems as though my males have been 10 times more active than the one female I had, and I do not want to get another lazy or inactive dog.

Perhaps I did not give her enough time to get acquainted with us and her new surroundings, it just seemed like her character was to be a lazy dog.

Any Advise?

Answer
There is no way to determine their personality prior to getting one, unless you get a puppy that displays high energy and activity to assure he/she is energic.

Each one is different, and adapts to their home environment. She might have had an inactive family life and knew no better.

As far as a male with two other males, or a female with two other males... that's a roll of the dice...

Both males will, however, fight over her if she isn't spayed.

Female Boxers are more aggressive than the male. So she might grow up and become the alpha of the house. Most males will hold back and allow the female to eat first, etc.

This is all I can advise. The decision is up to you-- but two females don't usually get along well.
