Boxers weight and how much to feed them

Question
I just got a 2 year old Boxer female.  Her previous owner said she feeds her twice a day and only 2 cups of dog food each feeding.  My concern is I can see all my dogs ribs.  Her previous owner said that you should be able to see the bone on her back, and the last two ribs, or she is too fat.  Are you supposed to see all her ribs though?  Also, how much should we be feeding her?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kamie...

You should not be able to see her spine protruding but should see the shadow of it and the last 2 ribs.  They shouldn't be completely sticking out but you should be able to see a hint, if that makes sense :)  Absolutely not ALL of her ribs.  You should be able to run your hands down her sides w/out pressure and feel them.

Read the back of the food bag and feed her appropriately for her weight plus 1/3 cup extra per meal if she needs to gain a few pounds.  :)
