Eggs for my boxer

Question
Hi -

I have a 6 1/2 old female boxer. She and I live in the home of a relative who has raised boxers in the past. I am the person who mainly provides her meals but once in a while my relative does it for me. When he does, he always pus in one raw egg with her dry food. I feel this is potentially unhealthy but he says it is good for her coat. Could you please tell me if it is OK that he gives her a raw egg with her meal? This only happens a few times per month and the dog shows no signs of stomach problems from this addition to her food. Thanks.

P.S. I am a fellow all expert in the field of springboard diving.

Answer
Hi Tom,

I personally would not give my boxers or any dog a raw egg out of the possibility of salmonella poisoning, which symptoms act similar to parvo and can be life threatening through dehydration.
I just want take that unnecessary risk with my own dogs as I have personally seen the effects.
Thank you for your question.
