Eight Year old Boxer /Bumps/ frequent urination

Question
My 8 year old Boxer, Mcguire is a very active dog. He loves going on his daily walks and still has a ton of energy. Lately, he has been peeing after his walks in the house. Usually, in the living room. I'm not sure if it is a medical issue because we just adopted a Beagel/Pincher mix. I thought it may be jealousy or marking his dominance. After he pees he goes by the door and lays down with his ears back. Mcguire gives me this cute, but sad look. So I know he knows he's doing something wrong. Besides that,  I have an appointment with the vet because I started to notice these small dark brown bumps on his body - they look like moles. Very small - but I know cancer is a leading cause in death of dogs and I want to be on the safe side. What tests should I ask my vet to take regarding the peeing? and should these bumps be removed even if they are not cancer? I really appreciate any feedback and thanks so much for your time. Lisa

Answer
Hi Lisa,

The peeing inside may be a territorial thing, but it could be a number of other things as well.  Urinary tract infections are a common culprit; at his age kidney or prostate issues are something to consider as well.  I normally advise a vet visit for inappropriate urination in a fully house-trained dog, so you're on the right track there. :)  The vet will likely want to do a urinalysis and a prostate exam, and possibly a blood panel - which isn't a bad idea for an 8-year-old in any case.

The bumps/moles should be evaluated by your vet and, if possible, aspirated rather than removed straight away (unless, of course, the vet knows exactly what they are).

Good luck to you and Mcguire!!
