boxer jumping fence

Question
I have a female boxer that I rescued about 2 months ago. there were no problems until about 3 weeks ago. She has started jumping the fence and running loose. I have a standard height chain link fence and don't know what to do. I am at work all day and cannot trust her. My boyfriend is dog sitting right now until we can come up with a solution. She is fine in the house, but there is no way I can leave her in while I am at work. Help.

Answer
Could she be in heat? That will cause her to roam.

If not, then it is something she has learned and now is forming a habit so she can roam free and explore. Once she starts, you cannot stop her unless she is supervised and you use reprimands when she does it. Training and reinforce punishments and commands.

She should stay inside while you are at work to be safe.

You might crate her for a few hours as long as your boyfriend comes over a few times a day and lets her out- maybe leash her and take her outside to train her to pee and do business, not play and jump the fence.

Don't leave her crated (large crate too) for more than 2 hours at a time.

You will need to have leash in hand and ready to leash her and train her when she wants to jump the fence.

Keep doing that until you can extend your fence higher.

You might buy the electric fence that you can put on top the fence line (instead of the bottom) and keep it on when she is outside- once she hits it (although it makes the fence line higher) it will shock her and she probably won't try it again.
