Aggresion

Question
We had aggresion problems with Valo for sometime. Our neighbours have 3 small dogs who will sit at the fence and bark at him non stop. One day last summer he went through the fence. We think the other dogs instigate the problem not Valo. We built him a very large kennel at the opposite end of the yard as those dogs, so to keep them away from each other.
Also he is very aggresive toward other dogs Both on leash and off. It is not all dogs. He was socialized as best as we could when we got him(we adopted him when he was 7 months) and we have never had any problems at the off leash area in our town. However with his increased aggresion while on the lead (toward other dogs and humans) we no longer take him to the off leash area but instead into the country side where we can walk him off leash away from people and animals.
Also we spend a considerable time camping. When we do camp we keep him chained to a tree at all times with a 6 metre chain. He is very protective of our area and us when we camp. He is good with all people and excellent with kids as long as he has met them prior to the trip. But not new people weather they are friends of ours or not.
And lastly. My wife was walking with Valo in Aug of last year and he snapped when he saw a dog accross the street from where they were. While she was trying to control the situation she caught a small bite in the leg. Then just this spring the same thing happened to me. We spoke to our vet about it and she said that she wouldnt consider him a biter because both incidents happened during altercations with other dogs. But our concern is that when he is on a leash and he sees other dogs he goes into this blind fury, there is no stopping him until the other dog is out of site.

What do we do. We are wondering if having him neutered will help things or make them worse.

thank you for you time we will remember to rate you.

Answer
Neutering might help some aggressive tendencies, but not all.

Apparently, the neighbor dogs have instigated so much problems that he has become dog aggressive because of it.

If you have friends or family with dogs, try having them come over to your house with their dog, leash yours while introducing them and supervise.

Expose him to as many different dogs as possible under a leashed and supervised visit.

Hopefully, he will become comfortable with other dogs. After he has met a few different dogs over a month's time- try him on leash at the dog park.

Let me know how he is then.
