Question
QUESTION: HI, my two boxer tied on march 7. They were tied for about twenty mins. My female has been showing all signs of pregnancy. Growth, enlarged vulva, swollen giant nipples etc. We took her to the vet for x rays at the 45 day mark and they said she is going through "false pregnancy". She was only backed up with fecies. She has continued growing since then and is no nesting, I really think i feel a puppy in there. Could the vet be wrong. This is my first time and I am not sure if I should follow through with a nesting box or not? Thank you

ANSWER: Dogs can go through false pregnancies, but they do not show signs as you mentioned- that implies she is pregnant.

Go to a new vet and get an ultra-sound.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thank you for your timely response! Honestly I really cant afford to go to another vet now. It was $200 for the vet exam and X-ray! If she is indeed pregnant i need to save that money to care for the pup"s" and an possible medical bills from complications. vets are very expensive here. What symptoms is it that lead you to believe she is possibly pregnant, i should also mention that last night I listened to her belly with my stethoscope and could hear what i thought to be a heartbeat in her belly. This heartbeat is rapid and almost 2times as fast as my females heartbeat. thank you

Answer
"Growth, enlarged vulva, swollen giant nipples etc."

Although, at the 45 day "mark" the X-rays would have revealed puppies if done correctly.

Gestation is 57-58-63 days... so 45 days is second trimester...........

She should have more frequent urination and thirst, rating more and then at times less, pant due to being hotter than normal, nesting in the last trimester, clinging to you; under your feet, following you around, etc.

A X-ray at 45 days would show puppies because they only have 11-12-15 days to go.......
