3 month old kitten

Question
My kitten is almost three months old and I took him into my house when he was only 5 weeks. I know it is very early to do that but he was living in a bad home. Now whenever he is tired he likes to act like he is sucking on his mother's nipple by sucking on my shirt and it gets my clothes all wet. Is this normal? It is a male cat and it is not desexed yet. Please let me know.

Answer
Hello Gina!

Hey, I know how you feel.  I brought home our two kitties when they were four weeks old because they were being seriously neglected.  So, I know your situation.  :o)

As far as the suckling, you can try getting him a Snuggle Kitty (or really any stuffed animal).  You can check them out here: http://www.lovemypet.com.au/mall/cat_kittenaids.asp

They're basically a stuffed animal designed for still-suckling kittens, and even include a spot for him to suckle on.  Him suckling is completely natural, and is a natural response to being weaned too early (not by your own action, of course) from his mother.

So, check that out and see if you can get him one.  You might be able to find an equivilent at a pet store near you, too, so check it out and see what you can find.  :o)

Let me know how things go, ok?

My hugs to you and your little man,

Rosie*
