Question
Dear Tabbi,

My cat has been wantig to go outside just to play in the sand on the street. I live in MA so now that winter is almost over, the sand that is on the street to melt the ice is now grouped on the street and my cat runs straight to the sand and rolls around in it for a while. I don't understand why he does it and I want to know what.

Thank you,

Nastasia

Answer
Nastasia,

Cats LOVE to play in sand! I guess it is the feel of it and how it moves around. I've used it for the litterbox a couple of times and the cats would play in it and kick it around before they used it for going to the bathroom! I guess it's a 'kitty thing'.

I would suggest going to Home Depot or a similar building supply store and buying a bag of children's play sand. If you have a yard dump some in an area where the cat can play in it or dump some on a big sheet of plastic. If he has his own sand then maybe he will stay away from the street. Putting something like ping pong balls on the sand will make it more fun.
