Question
I'm having problems with my one year old cat. I've had one of those auto-watering bowls for a long time, the one with the jug on top. He never used to do this, but he seems to think it's fun to pull the jug out and spill water all over the place. For a while I had to just use the bowl and put the jug away, but the first day I put it back, he did it again. I've caught him in the act many times and I'm not sure what to do. Is he playing? Is he doing it for the attention? Or is he just trying to find food in there? I can't figure it out. I have two cats so the jug works best for me.

Thanks!

Answer
Hello Josie,

Having Maine Coons who are known for their water play I can say for sure he is playing.  The best advice I have for you is to use a couple of cable ties together to keep the jug on and place it on a boot tray so if it does get knocked over it is fairly easy to clean up.  If it continues to be a problem there are other types of auto water feeders that may work better for you.
