Cats loosing their territory

Question
Hi, I live in the country and have a Burmese cat, around 4 years old. He is used to having the large property as his own territory and has never had to 'share' this with another animal/cat. Recently a feral cat has been hanging around our house, and they ended up fighting. It seems the 'feral' cat won this fight and ever since my cat has no been himslef. He will not go outside, where as he used to spend to whole day out, then come in at night. Also he is not playful and relaxed like he usually is, he seems very on edge. He has never needed a litter tray and does his business outside. However, since this he has been urinating inside, which is very out of character. Ultimatley we want this feral cat to go away. We have not fed or showed this cat any attention as we do not want it to stay. We have chased it away a few times. Im wondering if there is anything we can do to make this other cat go away, as we are finding it very distressing seeing our cat this way.

I look foward to a response.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kate,
Sorry to hear your cat isn't himself. The feral or stray outside might b starving and perhaps more aggressive due to this. I believe in humane and humane only options.
There may be some products you can try along your property lines and realize that it will affect other animals coming near the home, too, so give ample and generous understanding to wildlife as it is their home first and an ecosystem was in existence before us.
The two products you might want to look at is Silent Roar, lion dung pellets that is a cat repellent. The only issue is it might keep your cat from the area too, but that might be ok, as then they wont end up in a fight. I also like motion detected sprinkler systems, i do not know your situation and there may be a lot of area to cover. One such product is Ssscat but this may be for more small spot type interventions.
You can always build a fence in area for your guy so the other cat cannot get to him.
This feral may or may not stay for long, but the world is filled with billions of cats and it is quite likely in the future another cat or others could show up too that may or may not be friendly so perhaps this is the most long term solution.

Until he gets his wits about him again, (understandable that he is on edge as there was a fight outside) is Feliway, Bach flower essences put in water for animals, Rescue Remedy is a favorite with many, and Pet Naturals Calming Chews with L-theanine (only give recommended dosage). You might want to supervise when you go out with him, and have a little spray bottle with you, if you are on the deck or veranda he can stay with you.
I once had a super aggressive stray near my property, the poor thing was ravenous as he would hiss and growl at the window, i once caught him wolfing down the cat food, and saw the poor beast that was probably abandoned by owner maybe never acquired hunting skills as those bottle feeder kittens not raised with their mom at the right time do not know how to hunt which is so tragic as they will starve outdoors. We never know the history or story, and I often find many suffer interminably due to human intervention at times. Who knows if the yard cat is a stray or feral. I hope their is no more fighting!!
Thanks for caring! I hope it works out!
