My male cat still pees everywhere!

Question
Hi Tabbi,
I have two cats in my house and they have been together for about 2.5 years already.  My male cat is younger then my female cat by about 1.5 years and they are both spayed/neutered (Simba, my male cat was neutered as a kitten). He usually pees outside of the litter box (ie clothing/ bedding) about once a week. For some reason, my male cat seems to only want to pee on clothing that I have worn or bedding that I have slept with.  It doesn't matter if I am out or if he is right in front of me, he will still do it.  And the clothing/ bedding is usually in the open as well.  I don't what to do with him at this point.  Is there a chance that he was not neutered properly, and if so, is it too late to make a difference to bring him in again??
HELP!

Answer
Dale and Sarah,

You might want to take the cat to the vet for a checkup. He could have a kidney or urinary tract infection, or urinary crystals. Urinary crystals are very painful and the cats associate that pain with the litterbox and go elsewhere. If urinary crystals are not treated in time they can cause a complete blockage which is always fatal to male cats. It's always good to be on the safe side and check for a
medical issue relating the cat's behavior before addressing it as a behavioral problem. It would be a very rare occurance if the cat was neutered incorrectly. That is something you can also address with the vet.

When a cat pees on YOUR things or where YOU sleep most often he is trying to tell you that he is upset at you or he is trying to tell you something is upseting him in his world. Sometimes you need to be a detective to find out what it is.
Are there any stray cats outside in his territory that he can see but can't get to? Is there a female in heat in the neighborhood he is reacting to? Some cats are mentally 'male' even though they are neutered. Is he left alone for a couple days at the time? Have you been ignoring him and not playing with him enough. Has someone moved in or out of the home? These are things that can cause a cat to behave as yours is.

I hope this helped.
