Lousy behavior at 5 months old

Question
Hi, I have a 5 month old female calico, who gets lots and lots of attention in this household. She's our only pet! Lately she seems aloof to all of the family members. Doesn't want to be cuddled or held. Wants down if you pick her up. Is she going through her "adolescent" years and becoming independent?  She is my first kitten.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Dear Lee,

Your cat probably wants some space right now since she is growing up. When a cat is growing up they need time and space for themselves as they understand things more. Calico's are sweet cats, and love to get attention and held, so I'm sure when she is done growing, and is an official adult, so you can love her again. It seems you are a terrific owner that you love to be affectionate with her, it is telling her you care, and she will respect you for that, so good job. She is becoming independent, so she is phasing like "I am growing so I can handle it" which a lot of cats do. My kitten, Mia, did that. But then they are ready to be loved again, so don't worry! Good luck Lee. You're welcome by the way because you said thanks in your question. Bye.

P.S. You're so lucky you have a calico, one of my favorite breeds. They're so sweet and beautiful.
