Why does my cat EAT my clothes?!

Question
My 8 month old indoor only Female SPAYED cat has recently started to EAT my clothes.    Not my boyfriend's clothes but just MINE and it seems she loves to eat my favorite clothes.  It started at first with a blouse I wore often it had a string tie on the side and she would play and bite that... but while I was gone she ATE up the string and part of the blouse along with chewing and eating holes in random places of the shirt... I threw that shirt away thinking it was just that ONE shirt... then she did it to a pair of flannel PJ pants the top and bottom part of it.  THEN on the same day she did it to ANOTHER one of my fav shirts.... and just this morning I discovered another freshly destroyed shirt...  she doesn't do this to anything else, just my clothing.  I tried to look up answers online but all I have found is cats urinating on clothes.  If anyone knows why she does this please let me know!  She gets fed 2 - 3 x a day (depending on my boyfriend coming home for lunch) and eats the Indoor Kitten NutraChoice Complete care dry kibble and has plenty of freshwater.

Answer
Laura,

First of all do not let her near strings if she eats them! They could be fatal if they get wrapped around her intestines which is likely to happen. Also the clothing being eaten can cause intestinal blockage which can also be fatal. Pick up any clothing lying around and hang up your clothes so the cat can't get to them. Also try changing laundry detergent, dryer fluffs, deodorant, or any common smell you have on your clothes that may be attracting her to them.

You have a bored kitty. You may want to think about getting a kitty friend for your cat. 2 cats are easier to care for than one because another cat takes the pressure off of you to keep your cat amused, and they are less destructive than one bored cat. Cats need a friend to play rough with, play kitty games with, to snuggle with, and to keep them company and give them comfort when they are alone.

Play with your cat more. Getting a pet laser light helps too to take care of some of the kitten's energy. You can get them at PetSmart or similar store. Even Safeway carried them! (Never shine the light into their eyes). It is funny to watch them try to catch the 'red bug' on the floors, ceilings, and walls!

Play 'throw and fetch' with your cat. Get some furry stuffed mice or shiny craft balls that come in a package at Wal-Mart's craft dept. or a craft store. My cats love to just carry them around when I get tired of throwing them!

Get a kitty condo and put it in front of a window so she can climb up on it and look outside.
