Aggressive violent cat after spayed

Question
Hey there, I just got my 14 month old cat spayed. Before her surgery she was sweet and affectionate with both our male cat and pitbull. Since she has been home she violently attacks both the animal whenever she get out of the room we had to put her in. She got out the other day and went after the other cat and ended up attacking me, my arms are black and blue. I just want to know what happened to the sweet, affectionate, loving, cat I dropped off at the vet and if she'll ever be herself again.

Answer
Adrienne,

She just had a 'hysterectomy' and she may have some pain which will cause aggression. And she is probably 'mad' at you right now because she may think you are the reason for her pain and traumatic vet visit (which you are *smile*). Also some cats react to the anesthetic and when they come out of it they can get aggressive. Spaying does not change their personalities.

Be patient. She will settle down and go back to being her loving self. Kitty treats are a great bribe! Give her some canned tuna or tinned sardines in oil so that she associates you with something pleasant and not negative.

There is a cat calming product that you can add to her food or water that reduces anxiety called Bach's Rescue Remedy. It is available on-line and in health food stores (people use it too). Here is a link about it:

If she continues with her aggressive behavior I would contact the place where she was spayed and tell them how she is behaving. They may want to check her to make sure nothing inside is wrong.
