Himalayan Cat Behaviour

Question
I read that Himalayan cats are very playful and they act normal for cats. My new Himalayan cat is none of these things. She hides in dark places where we can't reach her and she doesn't eat. So far, she's only eaten a few bites. She has played with me once, at night, but in the day she barely comes out from under the couch. Is she just scared? It's been about five days. Should I be worried? Should I be patient and let her adapt? Help me!!

Answer
Hyba,

Give her time. Everything is new and scary. She has a new home, new people, new environment, new routine, new noises, new smells, etc. Be patient and let her come out when she feels comfortable.

It's best to keep her in one room for awhile, maybe a week, with her food, water, and litterbox to adapt. Then gradually let her out into the rest of the home, but keep the door open to her 'safe' room so she can run back in if she gets scared. Letting a cat out at first into a big home or apartment is too overwhelming.

It's always good to get 2 cats or kittens at the same time. The kitten is removed from siblings and/or littermates and can get lonely and be grieving. Cats and kittens need a kitty friend to play kitty games with, to snuggle with, and to be companionship and comfort when they are alone or scared.

She will be ok. Just give her lots of time to acclimate.
