Cat nails digging into furniture

Question
One of my two cats keeps digging her nails into my furniture and ripping the fabric.  Is there anything I can do?  I'm at the end of my rope and my furniture is getting destroyed.  I don't want to declaw them, but don't know what else to do.

Thanks,
Barbara

Answer
Hello Barbara!

There are two great options you can check out:

- Trimming your cat's claws

- Using either Soft Paws or Soft Claws (whichever your petstore has...they're the same exact product).

Soft Paws are a vinyl cap that you adhere to your cat's trimmed claws.  They're EXCELLENT!  I've used them on my cats for about a year now, and have had nothing but a great experience with them!

If your kitty doesn't like her paws being touched, you can take a week to everyday sit down with her and massage her paws a little.  When you see that she'll let you hold them for a bit without being freaked out, you should be able to either trim her claws and/or additionally put on Soft Paws.

Most vets would also be happy to show you the first time how to adhere them, though I have to say that it wasn't that difficult for me.  I had my husband hold our kitties (one at a time), while I trimmed their nails and put on the caps.

Here's a site that you can check out both things:

Let me know how things turn out, okay?

Hugs to you both!
