Question
hi for some reason my 9 year old cat has started to urinated in doors, its no place in particular, but it tends to be on clothes (my ironing pile) etc...do you know the reason for this?

Answer
Sallly,

The most common reasons are usually urinary tract infections, urinary crystals, or in the case of an older cat, the beginnings of kidney problems. All older cats need an 'older cat checkup' to check the function of the kidneys, liver, and thyroid. If the cat has urinary crystals it is very painful and they associate that pain with the litterbox and go elsewhere.

I would have the cat checked for medical issues before treating the 'accidents' as a behavioral problem. If the cat does not have a physical problem then write back and we can go from there.
