Question
QUESTION: I WAS THINKING OF GETTING A DOG INSTEAD OF ANOTHER CAT I HAVE A CAT NOW AND I WANTED TO GET A DOG PLAYMATE INSTEAD OF A CAT I WAS THINKING MAYBE A YORKIE SO THERE LIKE THE SAME SIZE

ANSWER: Alyanna,

Get another cat AND a Yorkie. That way everyone has a friend and a playmate to have fun with.

I am including a couple of links to articles on introducing cats and dogs that you may find helpful: (copy and paste, or type, the whole links into your address bar)

QUESTION: my parents want me to pick one  and i really want a dog so i could walk and run with it but then i want my kitty to be happy

Answer
Alyanna,

In my opinion a lab seems to be the best dog around cats. They are not 'cat killers' and, if trained correctly, are gentle, loving dogs. Do not get a hyper dog that will constantly chase the cat and bark in it's face.

I would ask an expert in the dog section of this website about the the type of dog, the best age, etc. It also depends on the personality of your cat. Some cats like dogs and some cats will not take to them. Ideally try to find a dog that has already been around cats. Also make sure you keep your cat's claws trimmed because at first the cat will be swiping at the dog if he gets close and you want the dog to respect the cat but not get injured by a sharp claw.

Do the introduction process slowly and correctly. That is very important for both the cat and the dog. Read the links I sent previously for guidelines. Good luck.
