Question
hello,
Thanks a ton for your answer on my Euth. question. now,I want to ask you a quetion about my own one year old cat, Diana. she seems dumb as compared to my male cat and only plays all day long. we always thought that our three year old male was the smart one as he uses differnt set of meows with differnt people. however, Diana surprised us all. My father plays flute  (indian musical instrument) but Diana objects. he just has to take the flute out of the case that she meows exactly like all cats do when they see a bird. sort of in a twittering way. she does that even with her eyes closed. how does she do that? she keeps meowing when he is playing the flute, forcing him to stop practising at all. she looks very cute, so my dad does not mind. but this is really surprising for us. can you tell us why she does that? I wish I can show you the home video. its priceless.

Answer
Hello again!

That sounds so adorable!!  When kitties do this, the twittering meow, they are expressing a chemical from a certain gland that enhances their sense of smell.  They usually do this when they're bird-watching in the window, so I'm inclined to say that the flute sounds enough like a bird, that her instincts take over, and she finds herself using that chemical to smell the bird better.  Does that make sense?  It also involves a bit of excitement, so it could be a game she's playing.

When you think about what's behind it, it's even more adorable!  :o)  What a cute little huntress!

Let me know if you have any other questions!  And enjoy your girl's "singing"!  I wish I could hear it!  :o)
