Question
I have sister cats they loved eachother slept together and even cleaned eachother. I just got them spayed yesterday now they can't stand to be in the same room when they see eachother they are growling and hissing at eachother. Will this get better when they heal???

Answer
Kim,

That is perfectly normal and typical behavior after coming back from the vet.

Cats go by smell and not by sight in recognizing other cats (with humans, they go by voice...not by sight). Your cats brought home MANY different smells from the vet: anesthetic, medicinal smells, and smells of other cats...all clinging to their fur. One female cat thinks the other female is another cat! They are protecting 'their' territory from this other 'intruder'. Things will settle down in a few days when the smells are gone from them.

A trick that I've heard a lot of people use in that situation (though I have never tried it) is to put a drop of vanilla on each cats forehead so they smell the same.

And thanks for being a responsible pet owner!
