Cat wanting to go explore.

Question
Hello Tabbi

We leave our 4 month old kitten inside the house during the day when we are at work. When we get home we let him go outside and explore in the garden but he know learned to jump onto the window still and then jumps onto the wall of our yard and looks like he wants to go an explore outside of the yard but I want him to be a indoor cat he did not get his injections yet. And we dont want him to ge diseases from other cats as there are some cats that walk around in our complex. What can we do so that he does not want to go and jump over the wall to explore. We are going to castrate him when he is about 5 or 6 months. I caught him on the weekend just sitting on the window still and on the wall just looking what is going on behind the wall. Help us in this matter please.

Thanks

Answer
Hannes,

It's best to get him neutered now (normal neuter age now is 3 months old or 3 pounds). That will help the wander-lust behavior due to being a 'tomcat'.

Can you close the window so he can't jump on the wall and just put him outide in the yard? Cats are naturally curious and it is normal for him to want to explore the sounds he hears on the other side of the wall. You just have to keep an eye on him. After he is neutered he may be content to just be in the yard though.
