Question
I have adopted a 2yr old male he has ben with me for 5 months now. I recently took in my moms 7 yr old female who is scared of cole naturally. It has been 3 weeks since i got gabby she is starting to become more comfortable with her surroundings and wants to come out and explore the apartment. Well Cole has another idea.He thinks her permenent place should be under my bed. If gabby tries to come out he chases her right back in. I cant get him to leave her alone! I've tried the spray bottle thing and he will let me just soak him. I've tried to divert his attention to toys that wont work either. Now i'm trying the time out method that does not seem to be working. What can I do to get the point across that it is not ok for cole to chase gabby and attack her?

Answer
HI Angie,

3 weeks is still pretty new but I completely understand your frustration!  First off the segregation needs to be switched with the male in your bedroom and the female allowed to roam the house without the male around to terrorize her.  Is this guy by chance a red (orange)?  I have seen cats who are immune to the squirt bottle and they are usually red males for some reason!  ;)  Anyhow, the next time he chases the female he needs to get a loud NO!  I would recommend the pennies in a can but unfortunately this will likely scare her more than him.  The NO! needs to be directed at him with a scruff of the neck, not violent but enough to stop him in his tracks and show him you mean bussiness.  It will likely take several of these to get the message accross but let me know how it's going.
