Question
I recently adopted a Ragamuffin and have been giving her Science Diet which is specifically designed to help prevent hairballs.
Last week she coughed up a hairball despite eating this food.  Can you offer suggestions about how I might handle this?

Thanks,
 Dana

Answer
Hi Dana! Ragamuffin's have longer hair and therfore a hairball now and then is unavoidable. There are a lot of treats, food, etc. aimed to decrease the amount of hairballs but it doesnt eliminate them completely, especially with a ragamuffin, so expect to still get hairballs every so often. If she still hacks up hairballs often then this is a sign that:
1- You should brush her regulary with a brush designed for long haired cats, which rubs off the excess hair.
2- Change the brand of food.
3- Give her cat treats that help prevent hairballs.
Hope i helped!
