female kitten spraying

I just adopted a female (I think kitty - 6 weeks old) who backs up to things and pretends to spray.  Do female kittens do this or do I have a male??

Has the kitten been to the vet for proper dewormings, tests and shots? Should have been by now and your vet surely can determine the gender. As far as spraying, some females may inappropriately eliminate similar to spraying usually when they are sexually mature and faced with territoriality issues and not spayed. Your is a bit young. Spaying should be done at 6 months and for males neutering can be done a bit earlier, 5 months or so. Once you know the gender you will know what to do. Spay.neuter to insure against many difficulties, not just the possibility of spraying, and against unwanted accidental pregnancies.
