Cats and Memory

Question
How long does a cat's memory usually last?  What I mean is do they probably remember things from a minute ago to something that happened a month ago?

Do they really know the humans by name or do they just react to the tone of the voices?

These are great questions, and the honest answer is that we just do not know.

Most cats have a pretty good short term memory.  If something untoward happens, they seem to remember that incident forever.

As far as identifying humans, they usually do that by sense of smell and body language just the same as how they identify other cats.
