Question
Abby
I have a female yellow tabby cat. She has no white or cream on her. The lady I
got her from and my Veterinarian told me that she is rare. My vet didn't
believe me that she is female. She checked a few times to make sure. Is it true
that only 5% of yellow tabby cats are male? That's what I was told.
Thank you,
Lindsay
AnswerLindsay,
By yellow tabby, I assume you mean a red tabby or a cream tabby. Females in these colors and patterns are quite common. What is rare is a male tortoiseshell or a male patched tabby (torby). Red or cream tabby cats are approximately 50% male : 50% female. There is no recognized "yellow" tabby designation in cats.
