Question
Hello Barb,
1 month ago, I took in an adorable stray.  The Vet said she was healthy and about a year old, but not spayed yet.  I made an appointment to have this done, but before the scheduled appt, she began spraying urine ALL OVER my house. Within the next day or two, she began showing signs of being in heat. (bellowing, crawling close to the floor, rolling around, etc..) I immediately called the vet and said she needed to have the surgery ASAP because I could not go on like this.  She is actually in surgery now, as I am writing this.  I asked the Vet if this procedure will stop the spraying behavior (I assumed it would), and he said not necessarily...but that hopefully we caught her early enough in her heat cycle(approx 2 days into it)that the behavior may cease. I love this little girl, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to live with her if she continues to spray urine around the house when she returns home.  Any thoughts on this problem?

Answer
Hi Dana,

Please don't worry.  Your little one will not spray after surgery.  Vets don't know EVERYTHING :).  She will be too busy getting well to worry about peeing on anything.  And when she recovers, she will revert back to being a normal little kitty with adorable ways and using the litterbox.  I have had many cats in my life, and had to have some of them spayed in the middle of a heat cycle.  One Abysinnian cat of mine comes to mind, who was just terrible.  She peed EVERYWHERE!  As soon as I had her spayed (about a week into the cycle) she was just fine and never peed anywhere inappropriate again.  Your kitty will be just fine.  Write again if I can be of further help.

Hugs,
Barb
