Hello,

I have recently noticed a few scabs near my cats tail.  I though she might have scratched herself or something, but they haven't gone away and it seems like they are sore.  She doesn't have any hair loss and the house and cat are flea and tick free.  She was abused in her former home so I have been reluctant to take her to the vet.  Do you know what could be causing this?

it could still be fleas. i have 6 indoor only cats and as soon as it got cold outside the fleas came INSIDE and all 6 of my cats have ADULT fleas on them. fleas hide inside the ears and up the anal cavity, and they dont seem to be laying any eggs at all, i have had to re-start a round of flea medicine.
now this also could be nerves for your car or allergies. cat can develop allergies suddenly and outgrow them suddenly. i would take her to the vet just to be safe. the vet can tell better then i can due to being able to look at the affected area.
