Question
Oh Great! I am going to list all of the abbreviations, even the ones I understand, together as they are listed in the reports. I think they are grouped based on the test. I am only listing those that are either High or Low.

Neutrophil SEG
Lymphocytes
Auto Platelet
Absolute Lymphocyte

AST (SGOT)
Globulin
BUN

THANKS to you and your friend!!!

Thank you Lisa. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear at first. Yes, the comparison to norms on the numbers are on the report so I can indeed tell that some results were high and some were low. What I cannot understand is WHAT is high or low. Everything is abbreviated or coded and so I can only figure out a few things (like iron being low was an easy one). I'll try the website anyway. I appreciate your time.

Question -
Hi Lisa
Do you know of a website or a reference, if not yourself, of how to interpret a lab report? I have always glanced at them in relation to what a Vet said but recently I moved and thus tried out a new Vet. One of my cats had to have some blood work done as well as a urine test. We went basically because he has slowly but steadily been losing weight (he was last checked 5 months ago). Long story short is that my cat went to the Vet fine, but skinny. I was told the next day that he was basically fine, considering his ripe age of 16, but he was anemic and his liver enzymes were high, and that we could buy liquid iron and something else available at most pharmacies or vitamin stores. Needless to say we were shocked when the next night we had to rush him to the hospital and he has left us.
I went back to the vet and asked for a copy of the lab report. There was no sense speaking with the Dr. I had no desire to do that so I was hoping to get some clarity on what everything means. Any advice would be appreciated.

I found this website, but i dont think it will help you.
i have asked a doctor friend about the lab reports, she says that the standards should be on the lab report. in other words, the report should tell you if something is too high or too low and it should tell you what the numbers mean. im sorry i couldnt help you any more then this.

I have asked my Doctor friend if she will tell me what the abbreviations mean. so if you will send me the abbreviations i can get you an answer by friday at the earliest. I am looking forward to learning more about this along with you. I am so sorry for your loss.
