Question
Cassie is about 2 years old....I got her about a year ago from a friend who found her abandoned on her doorstep. The last few weeks she's taken to standing up in a windowsill all day...crying for no apparent reason. The last couple of days she's eaten less and less and she's very thin. She sheds a lot and this morning, I discovered she seemed to be bleeding in a few places. Not fast, but there were some spots on her fur where there was blood.

Answer
Hi Phil.  Definitely schedule a vet visit.  I can't say what the behavior change is due to, but it certainly could be an illness.  That's always the first thing to rule out when we see a change in behavior.  And weight loss is usually indicative of some sort of physical illness, as well.  Any bleeding tends to be from disease, too.

It is possible this is all due to depression or anxiety, too.  Overgrooming due to anxiety often leads to bleeding skin.  Loss of appetite may be seen, too.  But when a cat becomes anorexic and starts mutilating herself from stress, then intervention is necessary.
