Question
Hi Jessica,
How are you
I have a 4 month old Persian cat. I have 3 questions :

1- I'm crazy about her, every one loves her at home, we carry her, hug her and kiss her a lot, is that okay ? do you think she doesn't like that ?!!

2- sometimes I feel that she becomes irritable, anxious, running away from us never let us touch her, as if she is scared of something ?!!
this happens frequently, everyday,  all of a sudden, not preceded by any alarm, she is not hungry, no one hurts her, we are unable to explain that

3- I feel that she doesn't like her special food, is it advisable to give her portions of our own food ?

lastly : any special advice ?

Thank You soooooo much,
Fayza

Answer
Hi Fayza.  Congrats on your new bundle!  Persians are absolutely delightful.

1.  All kitties need some time to themselves to rest, groom, play, eat...you get the idea.  But most cats do appreciate affection.  As long as she's not struggling to get away, showering her with this kind of attention is just fine.

2.  It sounds like this is when she wants some alone time!  Persians do like to cuddle in general, but no cat likes to be held all the time.  And especially since she's just a baby, she's going to be more active and curious than an adult cat.  They need extra time to explore their territory, learn new things and exercise their muscles so they develop properly.  So when she wants to be let go, let her go.

It could be possible that she becomes scared.  Persians are a quiet breed and really do best with homes without too much noise or bustle.  So if you've got young children, be sure they understand they need to move slowly and speak quietly around the kitten.  If you have a dog who tends to be excited, keep the dog at a distance.  Otherwise, she is likely to become overwhelmed.

3.  No, it's not really a good idea to feed her your food.  It isn't balanced for her, and some ingredients we humans eat are poisonous to cats, like onions, for instance.

You can feed her poultry, beef and fish in small amounts, as long as they're not cooked with spices or onions or garlic.  But limit this to a small serving per day.

Keep her on a kitten food.  Personally, I recommend to feed a canned food diet.  I find it gives cats a nicer coat, less diarrhea and gas and fewer skin, urinary tract and ear problems than dry food.  You can try feeding her different brands to see which she prefers.  Personally, my cats like Nutro Natural Choice.  Fancy Feast also seems to be a favorite, and my cats like Friskies, too.

The only other thing I would really want to stress about Persians is that you should brush her every single day.  Otherwise, you will probably run into problems such as her having hairballs, fur matting and having lots of loose fur around your house!
