Diarrhea in my male cat

16:33:04

Question
My 8 year old male cat is very healthy.  Last Saturday and Sunday he had the diarrhea only lasting the two days.  He had been eating and drinking normal and continues to show no sign of sickness. He has not had a bowel movement since Sunday.  Should I be concerned?  He seems very healthy and happy.  Eating, drinking and peeing.  He does not go outside and eats only healthy cat food.  No change of diet in the past year.  Any information would be helpful.  Thinking of taking him to a vet, but not sure how long I should wait.

Answer
Margaret,

It sounds like your cat had one of those 24-48 hour stomach bugs (yes, cats get them, too).  I would keep an eye on him and if he still has not pooped, a visit to the vet would not hurt.

The purpose of diarrhea is to clean out the bowels when something has gone awry.  If the diarrhea episodes are over, then it will be a couple of days until a normal poop may happen.  I would not wiat more then 3 or 4 days.

Best regards... Norm.
