introducing cats if you have no extra room

Question
Hi, I have a cat and would like to have another. All of the advice I see on introducing a new cat involves putting the new cat in an extra room. I live in a loft, the only extra rooms are a very small bathroom and the kitchen, which has no door and also is my cats favorite spot since she eats there. Is it possible to introduce a new cat using a large cat cage? Or do you have any other suggestions.

Answer
Yes you can use a large cage but if you are going to leave the cat in there for a couple weeks till they get used to each other..you might want to get a med. size dog cage so theres room for the litterpan and water and food! And of course make sure its the wire/bar kind so the cat can see out and the other cat can see in.. maybe take turns rotating cats so that the new cat isn't in the cage the whole time! Also use scent transfer for them to get used to each other. Use a damp cloth and transfer each o thers scent that way.. put the scent on a couple of toys
I also like Feliway an average house ranch style only needs 1 plugin in the central area of the house
(purchase at the pet store)
Good luck!!
