Pregnant Mom with non-friendly housemates

Question
I have 4 cats.  I've taken in basically a stray cat every 3 years and two this past year.  The first was an adult when I took her in, the second a kitten, the third and fourth are both adults.  Basically the first 2 don't get along with any other cats.  They can handle each other, but they don't play or sleep together.  The last 2 we took in are a girl and a boy and they get along. But my question is regarding the girl I recently took in.  She is pregnant and I am worried about how the other cats will react to the kittens?  They don't get along with her already, so will they try to hurt her kittens, or try to eat them or anything?  Will the male try to hurt the kittens?  We plan on keeping her in our bedroom for the next 2 weeks until she has them, but I am worried about how the other cats will react.  Any advise is appreciated!  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Cassie,

Bless you for taking in all these needy cats.  We need more people like you!  In a colony of feral cats you sometimes get males who try to kill the kittens that were produced by other males.  However, in your household you just have cats that don't get on that well and there's no real hierarchy so that won't be a problem.  Besides which, a mom with new kittens is not a cat to mess with (as several of my dogs have found out) and the other cats know this.  I think they will give her a wide berth for a while and while they may not like having the kittens around I don't expect they will try to hurt them.  Most likely they'll just stay away from her; but don't be surprised if they're a little cranky to you for a while until they get used to having the kittens around (and kittens have a way of insinuating themselves into the most formidable cat's heart!).
