cat claws at my feet

Question
I have a tabby cat for several years. The past few months from time to time she will walk directly in front of me to the point where I could stumble over her. She does this primarily when I walk to the back door in our garage. This is where I feed her. She has food and water. When I start to go in the house she will attack my foot with her claws.
Any ideas??

Answer
Hi Lowell,

Cats are creatures of habit. She associates you with putting food out in her spot. When you walk by the area she is expecting food. You don't give her food,(Yes, I know it is there. But you didn't just put it there). She is reminding you that you are leaving the food area without leaving her something.

The best suggestion that I can give you is to put her in the house when you set up her food. Then let her out when everything is done. Her food and water will be there, you won't. This will break her of associating you with the food. Good luck.

Ciao, Karen
