Ragdoll behavior

Question
I was given a Ragdoll as a gift,  he is now 2.  When he turned a year old, we thought we had a dog in the house, he as chewed and eated, clothes, blankets, fiber filled toys and dolls, hads and feet off barbie dolls, rubber door stops, the list goes on and on.  This Ragdoll has cost us thousands in vet bills and at least that much in what he has distroyed.
I have been in contact with the breeder we got him from, and they offered nothing, except to say thanks for calling!!  Another said diet,  nothing seems to work,
He is such a beautiful cat with a nice personality, except for his snacking!!
It just brings me to tears when I see another thing he has distroyed.  When I feel we have cat proofed the home.

HELP!!!!!

Answer
Ingrid,

To tell you the truth, I am baffled as to what to suggest.

The only thing I can think of to make an adult cat do that kind of chewing behavior is a dental problem.  I am assuming you have had the cats teeth checked?????

You can try behavior modification using the clicker training technique You can look at Karen Pryor's web site:

Other than that I am not sure what would work.

As to wires and the like, I have used a mixture of cayenne pepper and lemon juice to cat proof washable things, but I am not sure this is applicable in your situation.

I am sorry I cannot offer more.

Best regards... Norm.
