Cats behavior after Spaying

Question
Hi Norman, I'm hoping you might be able to help me with something.  I just adopted a 4 month old Siamese.  The rescue had her spayed the day before I got her.  Yesterday was my first day with her and I've noticed some odd behavior.  We have been keeping her confined in a room because we also have another kitten and don't want to introduce them right away.  However, the new cat, Coco, seems to be having a hard time going the bathroom.  We saw her urinate only once yesterday.  We have been making sure that she's been drinking water throughout the day.  She hasn't had much food, only a bit here and there but I'm sure that's because she's still out of it from the surgery.  However, she seems to be spending most of her time in her litter box.  It appears that she's crouching down, almost trying to go the bathroom but nothing happens so she just stays there.  Can you help?  We don't know if the cool litter is comforting on her belly where she had the surgery or if she's trying to go the bathroom but just unable.  We have witnessed her urinate once and it appears that there was one small other urination in the box, but other than that...nothing!  I also don't know if this could be due to the fact that she's feeling stressed out.  She went from being in a rescue home to being spayed to a new home all in the matter of days.  Please help!

Answer
Liz,

Yes, your kitten has been stressed!  However being a little older (4 months) is helpful. Like people, anaesthetic can slow things down with cats.  If, after 3 days, she is still not pooping, I would get her back to a vet.  You can also check that her incision is looking good and not "angry". Depending on the litter you are using, there may be more urination than you might at first think.

With kittens, if they go off and are not back to rights after 3 days, it is off to the vet.

Please let me know how she does.

Kudos to you for adopting a foster kitty!!!!!  You are, indeed, an angel.

Best regards... Norm.
