Question
hi i have a cat which i was told was female when i got it but at 4 months it started to spray so i took it to a local pet shop to ask if they knew as i have a female cat already i compared them they looked different but i was not sure but the pet shop said it was a boy i also put a pic on a vet site and they said boy too but when my female has been in season he has made no atempt to go near her he runs away and he has now started acting like a female cat in season if you stroke him his bum goes up and his tail goes to one side and he is meowing like she does so it got me worried that he may really be female but he sprays and its definately a male smell so i looked again at his bits he is different to my female but there are no testicles present there are 2 very small raised bits but not what you would expect in cat of his age as he now 8 months old it is not the first time he has acted like a female he has done it a few times now so i am confussed

Answer
Louise,

Take your cat to a vet and, if he is a boy, have him neutered and, if he is a girl, have her spayed!

Whole cat behaviors can run quite a gamut and male cats can behave a bit like females and females like males during mating seasons.  It sounds to me as if he might be a male with undescended testicles (but without a picture, I cannot tell from your descriptions).

Anyway, I suppose it is possible it is an hermaphrodite, but this would be highly unusual, indeed!!!!!

Please let me know what your vet say.

Best regards.. Norm.
