Female Bengal wont stop licking. HELP!!

Question
My female Bengal is 2 years old now and i have her sprayed at about 1 year old. Her belly has gone saggy it looks like she has just given birth and often people ask if she is pregnant. she also wont stop licking her belly, back legs and thighs. it looks like she has shaved the fur off. her fur has never grown back on her belly since her operation. she is an indoor cat and we also have a male Bengal cross Siamese. they are like brother and sister and get on really well. the male cat does not do it so it can't be fleas. i have taken them both to two different vets who said neither had fleas, mites, ring worm or anything else. so they don't have any clue. it is starting to annoy me because all you can hear is her spitting and chewing on her self. i have also tried saying no and moving her head away from licking, but she runs into other room and she starts doing it again. I work in a school so am home a lot and always playing and fussing both cats. They have the run of the house and plenty of toys so don't think its boredom.

Answer
Leanne,

I am not a vet, but, if I had to bet, I would guess that she has developed a food or environmental allergy. Have you changed their food lately or any of your cleaning products?  Have you installed new carpet?  Have you purchased anything new that they could be using as bedding?

You may get some temporary relief with some children's Benadryl (check with your vet for the dosage).  Some cats can get temporary relief using steroids (like depo-medrol, but this is not a long term fix as steroids will cause immune system problems in the longer term).

Allergies are a pain.  If your vet is not comfortable dealing with the allergy situation, he may be able to recommend a specialist who will.  It is often a major detective chore to nail down what is causing the allergy problem and is usually a trial and error thing.  So, the important thing is to try to determine what, if anything changed before the onset of symptoms, keeping in mind that symptoms to allergies do not usually appear overnight but may take a couple of weeks to show up.

Best regards... Norm.
